Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

Victory also signifies he has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on court had led observers to question if his ability to play at the top level was over.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
